JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Under general supervision, cleans and maintains City building. Performs routine building maintenance and repair of systems and equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION

Performs basic carpentry.

Waxes and buffs floors.

Paints interior and exterior building surfaces.

Shovels snow, spreads ice treatment.

Sweeps, mops and vacuums offices and hallways.

Snakes clogged drains.

Moves furniture, off-loads supplies and shipments as needed.

Cleans water fountains and restrooms, including fixtures; restocks supplies.

Removes trash and recyclable materials from offices.

Dusts wood work and furniture.

Cleans entrance windows and showcase glass.

Cleans kitchen.

Cleans elevators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education and Experience

Eighth grade education; and,

Six months to one year of progressively responsible related experience; or,

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Drivers License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their potential hazards.

Knowledge of routine equipment repair and preventative maintenance.

Knowledge how to perform routine electrical and plumbing repairs.

Skill in:

Operation and use of all equipment utilized in the performance of the essential job functions.

The operation of cleaning equipment and the use of cleaning chemicals.

Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff as needed, in a courteous and friendly manner.

Using tact discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established deadlines.

Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction.

Mental and Physical Abilities

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, pesticide labels, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and so forth.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure of work time to dirt, dust, and noxious fumes and odors; exposure to hazardous situations which involve exposure to machinery, hazardous chemicals, or electricity occurs frequently.
