JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK

Under general supervision, operates heavy construction equipment and performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operates loader, skid steer, backhoe and tractor and their attachments.

Drives small and large trucks to and from job sites with materials; picks up supplies.

Performs line stripping on streets with paint machine and manually.

Participates in leaf collection operation, operates leaf vacuum and tub grinder.

Sets forms, pours and finishes concrete sidewalks.

Operates street sweeper to clean streets and right of ways.

Performs maintenance on street signs.

Patches potholes with cold patch.

Performs street maintenance including crack filling and pavement repair.

Operates snow plow and salt spreaders during snow and ice events.

Performs pre and post inspections and minor maintenance on all equipment assigned to the Division.

IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists the Sanitation Division as a fill-in trash truck or recycling truck driver when needed.

Assists other Divisions as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education and Experience

High School diploma or GED; and,

Three to six months related experience; or,

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.

Loader, truck, and back hoe certification desirable

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Mechanical operation of various types of light to heavy construction equipment.

General construction techniques and methods.

Rules and precautions related to roadway and equipment safety.

Techniques and practices used in road and right-of-way repair and maintenance activities.

Skill in:

Operating all equipment utilized in the performance of the essential functions of the position.

Performing routine maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment.

Mental and Physical Abilities

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms; and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Working Conditions

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions; shaking objects or surfaces; and moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, or machinery. While working outdoors, employee will be exposed to poisonous weeds, insects, a variety of weather condition and exposure to the elements.

The incumbent's working conditions are moderately quiet to loud.
