JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK
Performs a variety of enforcement activities, primarily in the areas of animal control, noise abatement, abandoned vehicles
and parking enforcement.CORE COMPETENCIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responds to calls and complaints from citizens regarding noise issues.
Issues citations to residents regarding noncompliance with City ordinances, laws and regulations for animal control and noise violations.
Investigates animal nuisance and dog bite complaints and impounds dogs suspect of biting residents.
Works closely with the Animal Control Officer to ensure prompt response to dangerous animal complaints.
Patrols the City to identify and pick up stray, abandoned, and diseased animals and animals kept in violation of City or County ordinances.
Responds to calls for service by dispatcher for a variety of complaints including parking, disabled automobiles and traffic control.
Directs traffic and serves as a crossing guard as required.
Assists the department with community functions and special events.
Locates stolen and/or abandoned vehicles on the streets.
Checks emergency call boxes.
Tows vehicles that have been parked on the street in violation of state law.
Deals with the public in a courteous manner in order to rectify parking problems and educate the public regarding parking regulations. Assists the public by providing information and directions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience
Six months to one year of experience in animal control; or,
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Safety issues, risks and appropriate techniques for handling, capturing and transporting animals.
The layout and geography of the City.
Applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations.
All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.

Applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; to understand, interpret and communicate complicated policies, procedures and protocols.

Ability to trap, lift and transport animals.
Ability to speak effectively before public groups and respond to questions.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and speak and hear and lift up to 50 pounds.
Work is regularly performed outdoors which requires ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Work occasionally requires crawling into small spaces or climbing ladders to inspect for loose animals.
The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately quiet.
