Bicycle Theft

On June 26, 2014, at approximately 6:00 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7600 block of Maple Avenue for a report of a stolen bicycle.  Some time between June 24 at 8:00 pm and June 26 at 6:00 pm, unknown suspect(s) stole the victim's bicycle and bike lock from a bike rack.  The bicycle is described as a silver Mongoose bicycle.

Residential Burglary

On June 26, 2014, at approximately 4:36 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 200 block of Park Avenue for a report of a residential burglary.  Sometime between 1:10 pm and 4:30 pm, unknown suspect(s) made entry into the residence through an unlocked rear basement window.  Property was taken.

IRS Warns of Phone Scam

The IRS is warning the public about a phone scam that targets people across the nation, including recent immigrants. Callers claiming to be from the IRS tell intended victims they owe taxes and must pay using a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer. The scammers threaten those who refuse to pay with arrest, deportation or loss of a business or driver’s license.
 
The callers who commit this fraud often:
 
•Use common names and fake IRS badge numbers.
•Know the last four digits of the victim’s Social Security number.

Arrests:
 
Area of New Hampshire Avenue and Sligo Creek Parkway, on Monday, June 23 at 1:29 am, a male, 37, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
 
6600 block of Eastern Avenue, on Tuesday, June 24 at 3:04 pm, a juvenile male, 17, and male, 19, were arrested for Stolen Auto, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Theft.

State Fire Marshal Suggests Attending Public Fireworks Displays

With the arrival of summer, State Fire Marshal Brian S. Geraci is suggesting that Marylanders attend public fireworks displays. “I would highly suggest the safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend one of the many public fireworks displays throughout the state.” stated Geraci.  To help Marylanders enjoy a safer summer season, the State Fire Marshal offers several ways to enjoy fireworks while avoiding injury:
 

Theft from Auto

On June 26, 2014, at approximately 9:47 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7400 block of Holly Avenue for a report of a theft from auto.  Some time between June 25 at 5:00 pm and June 26 at 7:00 am, unknown suspect(s) entered the victim's unlocked vehicle and stole property.

Armed Robbery

On June 24, 2014, at approximately 9:00 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue (Quality Inn) for the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. The victim indicated that he was held at gunpoint inside one of the rooms at the Quality Inn by three suspects unknown to him.  Property was taken from him and the three suspects fled the hotel and left in an older gray 2-door Honda Accord.  The suspects are described as:
 
1.  White female, 140 lbs., blonde hair, last seen wearing a gray tank top and skirt.

Armed Robbery

On June 25, 2014, at approximately 12:55 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 900 block of Merrimac Drive (7-11) for the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. The suspect entered the 7-11 and walked behind the service counter armed with an unknown type knife.  One of the registers was open and the suspect grabbed the entire drawer and fled on foot from the 7-11.  The suspect was last seen fleeing on Carroll Avenue towards University Blvd.
