Numerous Tickets Written for Non-Seat Belt Users; Weekly Crime Report 5/30/14 – 6/5/14

As it does each year, the statewide Chiefs’ Challenge, which emphasizes safety restraint enforcement, ran through the month of May 2014.   The City of Takoma Park Police Department officers focused on enforcement of the state’s seat belt laws as part of the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign.  Officers stood at various places throughout the City during the campaign in order to issue tickets to any person not wearing a seatbelt or who did not have their child properly restrained.
 

Takoma Park Police Conduct Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Detail, Issues Citations/Warnings; Weekly Crime Report 5/2/14 – 5/8/14

It is important to raise awareness of the dangers to pedestrians, and to provide leadership and expertise to combat pedestrian accidents and/or fatalities. We urge parents, caregivers, educators, traffic safety officials and advocates to make pedestrian safety of the utmost importance to improve the quality of life in their communities.

April is Designated ‘National Distracted Driver Awareness Month;’ Takoma Park Police Report on Distracted Driver Citations; Weekly Crime Report 4/25/14 – 5/1/14

April is designated ‘National Distracted Driver Awareness Month,’ and Takoma Park Police officers participated and focused their efforts on distracted driving using traffic enforcement initiatives. Distracted driving is any activity that could divert a person’s attention away from the primary task of driving; this includes using a hand-held cell phone and texting. All distractions endanger drivers, passengers, and bystanders.

After Being Freed of Four Suspected Murder Charges, Takoma Park Police Detectives Instrumental in the Arrest of Raoul ‘Manny’ Hughes; Who Has Been Sentenced to 25 Years for Burglary – Weekly Crime Summary 4/11/14 – 4/24/14

A Detective in the Takoma Park Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division began assisting detectives in Montgomery County with a case involving Raoul “Manny” Hughes (Hughes), due to the spike of residential burglaries which were occurring within Takoma Park and the surrounding jurisdictions.  Hughes is believed to have also been involved in murders and attempted murders.
