About Our Youth Programs

The Recreation Department offers a variety of youth programs for ages 5 – 12 yrs. These programs vary throughout the year with some staple programs such as Morning Addition and Afternoon Addition, Summer Camps, and several sports programs. Spring Break Camps

Choose between one of our three great camps for Spring Break! The dates and age groups are the same - just pick your favorite sport!

Please inquire about the necessary paperwork needed prior to the first day of camp. Don’t miss the fun ... sign up now!

Monday-Friday, April 6 - April 10
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Who:
5 - 12 yrs

 

Cheerleading/Step Camp

Learn cheer and step routines and chants, and develop coordination, confidence, and a positive team attitude. This camp will also help promote technical and artistic growth of the participant. Dribble, Pass and Shoot

Emphasizing individual improvement is one of the guiding philosophies of camp. Campers will be provided with excellent coaching to allow each participant to develop a sense of pride and individual accomplishment. The level of instruction will be adjusted to fit the individual needs
of each participant.

 

Sportstacular

Calling all athletes and energetic game-enthusiasts! Whether you’re looking for classics or wacky games you’ll love this sports-filled week. Challenge yourself to compete in good old-fashioned games and crazy new ones, plus everything in between. The best part is none involve a screen. We’re all about team spirit and good sportsmanship while we explore the world of Super Sports.

 

Summer Camps

Come discover all the wonderful camps that the Recreation Dept. will be offering this summer for tots, youth and teens! Meet some of the camp counselors, ask questions and register on the spot!

Early Bird Special - Receive 10% off Rookie Sports Camp, Camp Recess, Camp Takoma, Dribble, Pass and Shoot or Teens on the Move if you sign up by February 28.

**The Recreation Department will be raffling off one FREE week of either Camp Recess or Camp Takoma (June 30 - July 2) at the Summer Camp Expo. Be sure to stop by and enter your name! You do not have to be present to win.

School Age Child Care Programs

Following the 2015-2016 MCPS School Year Calendar
Registration will open Monday, March 16- spaces will fill - don't wait!

After the Bell  *NEW*

A newly revamped After School program at Takoma Park Recreation Center (7315 New Hampshire Ave). Transportation is not provided to this program through TPRD but is available through MCPS. Enjoy games, crafts and fun time after school. We will also provide homework time.

3:30 - 6:00 p.m.

Who:
Grades K - 5th

 

Morning Addition

This before-school program is designed for those families that need early morning options before the school day starts. Staff will be available to provide informal recreation activities and will escort participants to Takoma Park Elementary School and Piney Branch Elementary School. Children will also have time for homework assignments, breakfast (not provided) or prepare for their day at school.

7:00 - 9:00 a.m.

Grades K - 5th

 

Afternoon Addition

Emphasis is on providing leisure and recreation programs utilizing our facilities to include but not limited to the computer learning center, dance studio, art room, game room, athletic fields, library and more. We have some exciting activities planned this year including: drama, music, art, sports, study time and playtime that will enlighten, empower and enrich minds and imaginations.

Sports

Flag Football League

This league is a non-competitive,instructional, community league. The goal is to teach the fundamentals of flag football in a safe environment. Registration has already opened! Don’t be left out. Practice begins the week of April 6, 2015. First game is April 11, 2015. All games are held Saturday afternoons at Ed Wilhelm field. Practice is determined by the coach. If you are interested in becoming a coach please email Bradleyw@takomaparkmd.gov

6-8 yrs
9-11 yrs
12-14 yrs

 

T-Ball

This co-ed league allows girls and boys to have fun while learning the basic fundamentals of baseball. Emphasis will be on fun, batting, running bases and catching. No experience is necessary as all skill levels are welcome. Participants must bring their own baseball glove. All teams will be formed by the Recreation Department. Games will be hosted at Belle Ziegler Park, Ed Wilhelm or Lee Jordan Field. Games are played on Saturday mornings at either 9 or 10:30 a.m. Volunteer coaches are a key element of this program’s success. Registration opened January 15th.
