THE TAKOMA PARK ARTS AND HUMANITIES COMMISSION “celebrating the creative spirit of our community”
PUBLIC ARTS PROGRAMMING
The mission of the Arts and Humanities Commission’s Public Art Program is to increase awareness and support for the arts in Takoma Park through the introduction and support of a variety of public art projects, as well as to preserve public art already in place.
Goals
Create and environment that supports art and artists by making public art a focused as well as a shared and natural part of everyday life.
Use public art and its selection process to foster community identity and spirit, encourage dialog, and promote cultural enrichment
Encourage economic growth through public art that is stimulating and accessible
Place public art where it will be enjoyed by the most people, as well as use public art to reach out to people who may have less access to it.
Build a solid foundation by integrating public art at the planning stage of community projects, and into projects that will improve the esthetic quality of the public infrastructure.
Initiate partnership with private and public entities, encourage gifts, donations and grants of funds for public art purposes.
