Numbers to Call for Downed Trees, Downed Wires & Power Outages

Friday, October 2, 2015

A message from Public Works and the Takoma Park Police Department:

For downed trees on public property, residents should call the Police non-emergency number at 301-270-1100. To report trees that have fallen on utility lines, contact the local utility companies. “Hot” wires or sparking wires, especially those across roadways, may be reported by calling 9-1-1. DO NOT GO NEAR  "HOT" OR "SPARKED" WIRES.

Trees that have fallen on private property are the responsibility of the property owner. The County’s Office of Consumer Protection advises homeowners to deal with established businesses only, and to call Consumer Protection first to check on a business complaint record. Consumer Protection can be reached at 240-777-3636.

In case of power outages, contact your power provider:

  • BG&E: 877-778-2222
  • First Energy/Potomac Edison: 1-888-544-4877
  • PEPCO: 1-877-737-2662

Project Update: Bridge Work on Carroll Avenue

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Project Update from SHA

The project was recently awarded to Kiewit Infrastructure South Construction Company. Work on the project is anticipated to start later this summer. Work over the first few months will be focused on constructing the temporary pedestrian bridge, relocating utility poles, and installing the temporary traffic signals at Maple Avenue and Sligo Creek Parkway and at the Maple Avenue hospital entrance. The Carroll Avenue Bridge will remain open during this time. All this preliminary work must be complete before the contractor will be allowed to close bridge. The Contractor is in the process of preparing a construction schedule which will include an anticipated date for closing and starting work on the Carroll Avenue Bridge. We anticipate holding a community meeting in late August and sending out an informational flyer just prior to start construction to provide updated information on the project.
