SPECIAL NOTE - Metro Labor Day Weekend Redline Track Work Will Have an Impact on Traffic Flow: Beginning Friday night, September 3, at 10:00 p.m., through Tuesday morning, September 7, at 1:00 a.m., five Metrorail stations on the Red Line will be closed: Glenmont, Wheaton, Forest Glen, Silver Spring and Takoma. In order to help people get around the station closures, Metro will operate free shuttle buses between the Fort Totten and Glenmont Metrorail stations. This shuttle bus service will greatly increase bus traffic throughout the area. The Metro Transit Police are increasing the number of uniformed officers throughout the area. As part of the overall service plan to support the rail shutdown they have established three shuttle lines to coincide with the rail station closures. Those shuttle lines include one route serving: Glenmont to Fort Totten via Wheaton, Forest Glen, Silver Spring and Takoma (Red); another route from Silver Spring to Fort Totten via Takoma station (Yellow), and a third route from Glenmont to Petworth Station via Wheaton and Silver Spring stations (Green). (Police)
Public Works Services: Public access to the Public Works facility at 31 Oswego Avenue is closed during construction. The office staff have been relocated to the Community Center at 7500 Maple Avenue. Please pay fees or submit permit applications at the Community Center. Drop-off of electronics and CFL bulbs has been curtailed during construction. Alternative locations for these items will be listed on the City website. Mulch may still be picked up and used motor oil deposited in the oil tank, as those areas are outside the work zone. (Public Works)
New Sidewalk Installation: New Sidewalk will be installed in the 100 block of Lee Avenue the week of September 7. The project is funded through the Speed Camera Fund. In addition to the installation of a missing section of sidewalk, other non-compliant sections of curb ramps and sidewalk will be corrected on Lee Avenue between Hancock Avenue and Maple Avenue. (Public Works)
New Social Media Initiatives: As part of the work being done by Takoma Park's new Media Specialist, the City would like to announce it has an official presence on Twitter and Facebook. We will be working on adding content in the forthcoming months and are hoping to build a community incorporating other social media initiatives started by other departments and residents. Everyone is encouraged to participate and contribute as Takoma Park grows into these new ways of communicating! Twitter and Facebook are great ways of sharing events, news and other issues like utility or transportation outages. You can join us here: http://twitter.com/TakomaParkMD (Twitter) and http://facebook.com/TakomaParkMD (Facebook).
