Eight Drivers Issued Tickets; 13 Issued Warnings in Takoma Park for Cell Phone Violations While Driving – Community Advisory

Since October 1, 2013, when the new cell phone law went into effect, eight drivers have been issued cellphone violation tickets and 13 were issued warnings for not using hands-free devices in Takoma Park.

Beginning October 1, 2013, police in Maryland, pursuant to new law, were given the authority to pull drivers over for talking on a hand-held cell phone as a primary offense. Even if your phone is on speaker, if you’re holding it in your hand, you are violating the law.

Theft from Auto and Destruction of Property - Community Advisory

On November 5, 2013, Takoma Park Police responded to the 6500 block of Eastern Avenue for a report of a theft from auto that occurred earlier sometime between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Unknown suspect(s) smashed out the rear passenger window of the victim's vehicle and stole property.

Takoma Park Police Investigator's Seeking Public’s Assistance – Community Advisory

Takoma Park Police Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a possible residential burglary victim who resides in Takoma Park in a two-story, single family home with two trees or bushes in the front yard, and a driveway to the left of the residence. The residence looked abandoned or it was under renovation at the time of the burglary, which may have been in late July 2013.

Strong Arm Robbery - Community Advisory

On November 1, 2013, at approximately 4:41 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7000 block of Carroll Avenue for the report of a strong arm robbery that occurred earlier in a different location. The victim was in the District of Columbia walking along Laurel Street when he was approached by two suspects who demanded property from him. The victim complied and the suspects fled on foot down Laurel Avenue on to Carroll Avenue towards the District of Columbia. The victim made his way to the lobby of Victory Towers where he reported it to police.

Stolen Auto Tag - Community Advisory

On October 30, 2013, at approximately 2:41 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the Takoma Park Police Station for the report of stolen auto tags that occurred in the 7700 block of Maple Avenue. The victim noticed her front vehicle tag missing on September 1, 2013. The outstanding tag is Virginia tag #XEY4870.

Five Vacancies on Police Chief's Advisory Board - Community Advisory

Chief Alan M. Goldberg of the Takoma Park Police Department announces that there are currently five vacancies on the Police Chief’s Advisory Board. In October 2009, the Board was formed, which keeps members informed of departmental activities, they receive updated advisories and alerts on crimes and are invited to department events. Recently, the meeting date/time has been changed to the third Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the City building.
