On October 11, 2013, at approximately 7:05 pm, Takoma Park Police responded for a report of a theft that occurred in the 7600 block of Takoma Avenue (Montgomery College Gymnasium). Various items were stolen out of the victim's backpack.

October is Crime Prevention Month – Drug Use & Alcohol Abuse Prevention - Community Advisory

This week’s theme, Drug Use & Alcohol Abuse Prevention, corresponds with upcoming Red Ribbon week (October 23-31), which is a nationwide campaign to pledge against illegal drug use and alcohol abuse. It also corresponds with our upcoming Nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back Day (October 26), which is also a nationwide campaign to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding your homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Road Closure - Community Advisory

Sligo Creek Parkway is closed between Maple Avenue and Houston Avenue. A tree fell on a moving vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Notifications have been made to have the tree removed and the vehicle towed.

Theft - Community Advisory

On October 9, 2013, at approximately 3:29 pm, Takoma Park Police responded for a report of a theft that occurred in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue (Envy Nails Spa). The victim’s purse was stolen.

Investigation continues under case #13048216. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to please call us at 301-270-1100.

Theft - Community Advisory

On October 9, 2013, at approximately 12:42 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue (Econo Lodge) for a report of a theft that occurred earlier. Unknown suspect(s) stole a television from one of the rooms sometime on October 8 between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm while the door was open.

The outstanding television been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. Investigation continues under case #13048177. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to please call us at 301-270-1100.

Theft - Community Advisory

On October 9, 2013, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7600 block of Fenton Street (Montgomery College) for a report of a theft that occurred. The victim's property was stolen by unknown suspect(s) from a locker room area.

Monster Bash 2013 - Saturday, October 26th! - Community Advisory

MONSTER BASH 2013 - Saturday, October 26th!

Rain or Shine *NEW LOCATIONS*

  • 5:00 pm: Annual Costume Contest: Get all decked out and strut your stuff. Categories include most original, funniest, and scariest. Categories: ages 2 and under; 3 - 4; 5 - 7; 8 - 10; 11 - 12; Teen and Adult; and Overall group. Join in the Fun! Limited Parking due to street closures. *Meet in the Public Parking Lot Beside the TPSS Co-Op.
  • Approximately 6:15 pm: Costume Parade: All are welcome to participate in this walking parade. Follow the Takoma Park Fire Department Fire Truck as it escorts you down the parade route. *This year will have a new route leaving the parking lot beside the Co-Op, walking down Carroll Avenue to Old Town Takoma Park.
  • Approximately 7:00 pm: (immediately following the parade): Costume Award Ceremony & Celebration: Join us for refreshments, sponsored by the Takoma Park Lions Club, following the parade. A musical performance sponsored by the Recreation Department is suitable for all ages. *In Old Town Takoma Park (Carroll and Laurel Avenues)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Takoma Park Recreation Department is looking for volunteers to help assist with the costume contest, parade, games, crafts and food distribution during the Monster Bash. "Haunted House" Fire Safety Emphasized by the State Fire Marshal - Community Advisory

During the Fall holiday season, many organizations and individuals are in the planning stages for holiday activities. State Fire Marshal Brian S. Geraci wants to remind everyone the State Fire Prevention Code requires adequate fire protection to be provided in "Haunted Houses" and special amusement buildings. Both permanent and temporary use structures fall under these requirements. "These common sense requirements, based on national model codes and standards, will help us avert a tragedy similar to the one that struck a New Jersey theme park over two decades ago.
