International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 9 – Community Advisory

International Walk to School Day is an annual event that promotes the benefits of walking to school. Children, parents, teachers, and community leaders in Takoma Park and around the world will join forces on October 9 to enhance child pedestrian safety, physical activity and strengthen community involvement. Celebrations in Takoma Park will involve three area schools: Takoma Park Elementary School, Piney Branch Elementary School and Takoma Park Middle School.

Road Closure; Gas Leak - Community Advisory

A construction crew working in the 6600 block of Allegheny Avenue struck a one-inch natural gas line adjacent to 6617 Allegheny Avenue. As a result, the roadway has been completely closed from 6607 Allegheny Avenue to 2nd Avenue at Allegheny Avenue. Local traffic is allowed between Elm Avenue at Allegheny Avenue to 6605 Allegheny Avenue. A work crew from Washington Gas has a supervisor on-scene with a repair crew responding.

Theft from Auto - Community Advisory

On September 26, 2013, Takoma Park Police responded to the 6600 block of Cockerille Avenue for a report of a theft from auto. Sometime between September 25 at 8:45 pm and September 26 at 2:00 pm, unknown suspect(s) entered the victim's vehicle through an unlocked door and stole property.

Stolen Auto Tags - Community Advisory

On September 26, 2013, at approximately 11:22 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 8400 block of Flower Avenue for the report of stolen automobile tags. The victim last saw his tags on September 25. The outstanding tags are Maryland tag #8AZ9463.

The outstanding automobile tags have been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) stolen vehicle database. Investigation continues under case #13045855.

Destruction of Property - Community Advisory

On September 26, 2013, Takoma Park Police responded to the 900 block of East West Highway for a report of destruction of property. Sometime overnight, unknown suspect(s) smashed out the front passenger side window of the victim's vehicle.

400 blk. of Tulip Ave., on Monday, September 23rd at 9:00 p.m., officers responded to a burglary that occurred earlier. Unknown suspect(s) broke a window to gain entry into a residence, but did not steal any property.

Theft from Auto - Community Advisory

On September 22, 2013, at approximately 8:13 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 6700 block of Westmoreland Avenue for a report of a theft from auto. Sometime during the previous evening, unknown suspect(s) entered the victim's vehicle through an unlocked door and stole property.
