HOW TO FILE CHARGES

  1. Report the incident to the police
  2. Obtain the report number from the Police Officer
  3. See the District Court Commissioner to file charges against the offender. A warrant for his/her arrest or a summons to appear in court may be issued. A Commissioner is on duty 24 hours a day at the Rockville District Police Station located at 1451 Seven Locks Road, Rockville, MD.

If a commissioner does not charge the offender contact the State's Attorney's Office to request a review of the application for charges. 


OBTAINING A  COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT 

A copy of your police report may be obtained at the Takoma Park Police Department. Reports are $5.00 each. Hours are: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Victims may call the Victim Assistant for reports at no charge (301) 891-7147.

INFORMATION ON CASE STATUS/SUSPECT'S/DEFENDANT'S COURT DATES 

V.I.N.E. (866) MD4-VINE

The Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office offers the Victim Identification and Notification Everyday (V.I.N.E.) system. A 24-hour automated telephone service to assist crime victims and witnesses regarding important custody and court information.

You must know at least one of these to use this system: defendant's name, inmate number, or case tracking number. For questions about the V.I.N.E. system contact the Victim Assistant at (301) 891-7147.

CRIMINAL INJURIES COMPENSATION

Maryland State Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (410) 585-3010;
Oversees applications for financial compensation due to injuries resulting from a crime Note -there are strict criteria a victim must meet to be eligible for compensation. Additionally there are strict guidelines, procedures and deadlines in filing a claim. The Victim Assistance and Sexual Assault Program (240) 777-1355, can help victims and survivors in filling out the claim.
