* A candidate must receive a majority of valid votes to be elected. If no candidate reaches a majority of first choice votes, an instant runoff is triggered. The ballots marked first choice for candidate(s) with the fewest first choice votes are reviewed to see if they selected a second choice. If so, those ballots are redistributed to their second choice candidate. If their second choice is defeated or if they did not select a second choice, those ballots are declared “exhausted.”

November 14, 2022 – Update

5,735 ballots have been processed and scanned to date.

A few more ballots may yet come in the mail. There are a number of ballot envelopes that were not signed and we are attempting to contact those voters to give them an opportunity to cure the deficiency.  We have established a deadline of noon on Wednesday for envelope signatures to be completed.

After scanning all processed ballots, the vote tallies are listed below.  These results are not yet final. The results of the election will be certified by the Board of Elections and reported to the City Council on Wednesday, November 16.

This is a ranked-choice voting election. In cases where no candidate received a majority of first choices, the candidates with the fewest votes are eliminated. On those ballots where voters selected a second choice, the second choices were counted for the second-choice candidate selected by the voter.
