The City of Takoma Park invites individuals, families, friends, or others to honor or commemorate an individual. The City provides two options:
- Installation of a Plaque on an Existing Bench
- Installation of a Plaque in Front of an Existing Tree in a City Park
There are several benches and trees throughout the City of Takoma Park that are eligible for designation as personal memorials by individuals or community organizations to display commemorative plaques. The application fee for this service is $300 per application. The application fee includes:

Once the application is approved, a City staff member will contact you to confirm location information, plaque language, and any other details. The application and installation fee is $300*. The fee is due upon location approval.
The fee can be paid in person at the Finance Department (located on the 3rd floor of the Community Center) by check , cash, or credit card (credit card fee applies), or by mail. Checks should be made out to the City of Takoma Park and mailed to the City of Takoma Park c/o Finance Department, 7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912.
*Application and installation fee does not include the cost of the plaque. The cost of the plaque is paid directly to the vendor by the applicant.
Installation of a Plaque on an Existing Bench and/or in front of a Tree
Once the location has been approved and the application fee has been paid, you will be able to place your plaque order directly with the vendor.
When you have received your plaque and stake (if applicable), please bring it to the Public Works Department for installation. The plaque will be installed within 30 days, weather permitting.
Commemorative Plaques have a lifetime replacement guarantee through the vendor. If a bench should become broken or vandalized please notify the Public Works Department (301-891-7633) and it will be repaired/replaced or the plaque can be relocated.
