Montgomery College Facilities Master Plan

About the Montgomery College Facilities Master Plan

The  Montgomery College Facilities Master Plan 2013 to 2023 was delivered to the Maryland Higher Education Commission in February 2016. The Takoma Park City Council provided comment on the plan to the Maryland Higher Education Commission on March 2, 2016. The specific area of interest concerns the location and design of new science and math facilities.

Current Project Status

Following a two-year process, Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard announced her decision regarding the location of the College’s new Math-Science Building on September 29, 2017.  Dr. Pollard, in a letter to the community, explained the rationale for moving forward with Option 1, to replace Falcon Hall and Science South with a new math/science facility. Dr. Pollard sent a follow up letter on October 19, 2017.

More information about the issues and the process is available on Montgomery College’s  blog, including updates from Montgomery College President Dr. Pollard.

Following the decision, there will be a public charrette process and a review by the County Planning Office, both of which will enable the community to explore design and construction details.

Community Conversations

In March 2017, Mayor Stewart and Montgomery College President Dr. Pollard extended an invitation to members of the community to participate in a series of three conversations about the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. Co-hosted by the Takoma Park City Council and Montgomery College, the last of these conversations was held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017. Information gathered during each of the three community conversations is available under “Links and Notes” in the right column of this page.
