Public Space Management Plan
About the Public Space Management Plan
The purpose of this project is to develop a Public Land Management Plan to provide a vision, goals, and guidance on how public space will be used and maintained in Takoma Park. This plan will be an update to the City’s 1994 Open Space Plan (amended in 1999).
Public space, in the context of this plan, includes parks (operated both by the City of Takoma Park and M-NCPPC), plazas, and open green space. The plan will also incorporate public rights of way within the City including streets, sidewalks, medians, neighborhood paths, and paper streets and corresponding programs and activation.
Current Project Status
Staff is currently working on developing a set of draft goals for possible review by a smaller group of Council members prior to a formal Council work session to be held in Fall 2019. A methodology report and updated needs assessment will be completed in Summer 2019.
City staff presented a revised scope of work for the plan on November 14, 2018. Background information on the project was first presented at the March 2, 2015 City Council Work Session. An inventory of amenities in City was conducted and the Takoma Park Streetscape Manual, which deals with public space improvements in the right-of-way, was adopted by City Council on July 20, 2016.
