The Takoma Park Safe Routes to School 5K Challenge, TKPK5K, will not be held on Sunday, May 3 as planned. Many thanks to the runners who registered early and the sponsors who signed on to support this wonderful tradition in Takoma Park. Registered runners and sponsors will be contacted separately with refund information. We are evaluating all options available to hold the race in some form this year, if possible, so stay tuned. TKPK5K is all about safety, health and fitness. While you are making efforts to stay fit, please remember to follow all recommended guidelines to stay healthy and safe.
The Safe Routes to School Takoma Park 5K Challenge promotes pedestrian safety by challenging the students, parents and staff at participating schools, and area residents to train and compete in the annual race held the first Sunday in May. Events include a 5K run or walk, a one-mile fun run and a quarter mile youth race. Proceeds from the 5K Challenge fund pedestrian safety and health initiatives through the local Parent Teacher Associations.
