The City’s Nominating Caucus will convene at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, to accept nominations of candidates for mayor and councilmember for the November 3, 2020, City Election.
The Nominating Caucus will be held virtually/remotely over Zoom. Only registered voters of the City present at the meeting may nominate or second the nomination of a candidate. If not yet registered to vote, residents may register with the City Clerk up until 12:00 PM ( Noon) on the day of the Caucus.
Signup on Zoom is not required simply to view the meeting. It can be viewed live on:
- CityTV (RCN – 13, HD 1060; Comcast/Xfinity – 13, HD 997; Verizon Fios – 28),
- on the City Council video page of the City Website,
- on YouTube,
- and on Facebook.
Nomination of each candidate for councilmember may be made on motion of any voter of their ward, and if such nomination is seconded by a voter of the ward, the person so nominated will be considered a candidate. Ward councilmember nominations will be accepted in the following order: Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Nominations for mayor will follow.
At the Caucus, nominations of candidates for mayor may be made on motion of any voter of the City, and if such nomination is seconded by a voter of the City, the person nominated will be considered a candidate.
A nominated candidate may decline a nomination during the Nominating Caucus. A person may only accept nomination for one City office.
The name of each person nominated for the office of mayor and councilmember will be placed upon the official ballot for the November 3, 2020, City Election unless the person does not meet the qualifications for office or files a declination with the City Clerk by Friday, September 18.
Any person nominated as a candidate must meet the qualifications of the office for which they are nominated.
