Fourth of July Road Closures

July 4 2017 6:00 am to 1:00 pm NO PARKING  at the following: Both sides of Jackson Ave from Ethan Allen Ave to Sligo Creek Parkway, Both sides of Ritchie Ave from Maple Ave to Piney Branch Rd, Both sides of Maple Ave from the DC line to north to Lincoln Ave, All parking spaces behind City building-Library, All parking spaces to the rear of City building-Police Department, Grant Ave between Hancock Ave and Carroll Ave., Lee Ave between Hancock Ave and Carroll Ave, Sherman Ave between Hancock Ave and Carroll Ave, Hancock Ave between Grant Ave and Sherman Ave. There will be NO PARKING at any of the meters along the parade route and the staging area. The roads around the parade route will be closed off around 9:00 am and reopened around 1:00 pm. The parade will begin at MD 410 (East-West Hwy) and Carroll Ave. It will continue south on Carroll Ave to Maple Ave, where it will turn right. The parade will continue on Maple Ave until it reaches Lincoln Ave where it will end.

The roads will close at 9:00 am and will reopen around 1:00 pm after the parade.

Starting on July 04, 2017 at 7:00 pm and going to 11:00 pm there will be No Parking on both side of the road on the following streets.  Ritchie Ave from Geneva Ave to Piney Branch Road, Grant Ave from Holly Ave to Piney Branch Road, Holly Ave from Hodges Ave to Grant Ave, Chestnut Ave from Hodges Ave to Grant Ave, and Hodges Ave between Holly Ave and Chestnut Ave.

The Takoma Park fireworks will be held on the field of Takoma Park Middle School, 7611 Piney Branch Ave. Activities start at 7:00 pm and the fireworks at approximately 9:30 pm. Rain date is the first clear night following the cancellation.

Road Closure: Installation for New Pedestrian Bridge Over MD-320

Piney Branch Road travel lanes near Sligo Creek Parkway will close for the weekend of June 2 – 5. Crews will close lanes starting at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2 (weather permitting). All lanes will reopen no later than 5:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5. In case of inclement weather, the work will be performed the following weekend. During the lane closures and detour, crews will install a new pedestrian bridge over MD-320 at Sligo Creek Parkway. Celebrate Takoma Festival Road Closures Saturday, May 18

The Celebrate Takoma Festival features the culinary tastes, festive performances, visual and performing arts, crafts and games that originate from nations around the world. The event will take place this Saturday, on Maple Ave from 4pm-7pm.

Maple Avenue is transformed into a world of fun and learning; the venue for this family festival that features a large stage of free live entertainment, food vendors, exhibit areas and game area (nominal fees charged for food vendors). Incorporated into the festival again this year will be the Takoma Foundation’s Azalea Awards. Don’t miss the fun!

The following road closures and no parking areas will be in effect for Sat. May 18, due to the Celebrate Takoma Festival.

  • Maple Ave (from Philadelphia Ave to Lee Ave) will be closed from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Grant Ave will be closed at Hancock Ave from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Detours will be set in place including bus routes to ensure smooth traffic flow. Please check with Metro or Ride-On for specific detour routes and times.
  • Parking at Piney Branch Elementary School and in festival area during this time is unauthorized as well.
  • The entrance to the Edinburgh House Apartments will be closed from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Passport Services Available Wednesday Only This Week

The City’s Passport services will have limited access this week. Passport services will be available Wednesday, August 2, 2017 only and closed the remainder of the week.   We anticipate passport services to resume Monday, August 7, 2017.

Takoma Park staff always encourages calling the City’s main phone number at 301-891-7100 and checking if the office is open before departing for the Community Center for passport services.

Road Closed: Sligo Creek Parkway

Sligo Creek Parkway will be closed to traffic between Maple Ave. and Old Carroll Rd. from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. March 23 and 24. Follow detour signs to Lincoln Ave.

City Offices Opening at Noon Today

Due to the overnight winter weather, City of Takoma Park offices will open at noon today. The Police Department is always open for emergency services.

Trash, recycling & food waste collection will be delayed; both Tuesday and Wednesday collections will take place on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, pending weather conditions.

Road Closure: Sligo Creek Parkway

Sligo Creek Parkway will be closed to traffic between Maple Avenue and Old Carroll Road, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 9 and March 10. Follow detour signs to Lincoln Avenue as a work around during this time period.

Delayed Opening: Community Center to Open at Noon

Due to icy road and sidewalk conditions, the Community Center (including the Library) will not open until noon. City staff are treating hills as well as sidewalks around the Community Center.

The Police Department is always open for emergencies and calls.

Plastic Bag Ban Effective Today!

Effective today, December 1, 2016, the commercial use of plastic single-use bags at point of sale is prohibited in Takoma Park. Exceptions include dry cleaning bags and newspaper bags where newspapers are delivered by the publisher. More details are available in the City Ordinance (2016-31).
