About Ward 2 Councilmember Cindy Dyballa

Cindy is an enthusiastic long-term Takoma Park resident. She and her spouse Steve Nadel live on Elm Ave across from Forest Park, having moved from the Boston area.  Their daughter Marcy now lives in Fairbanks, AK.

A water resources professional with federal and state experience (US Environmental Protection Agency, US Dept. of the Interior), Cindy now has a consulting practice, Sligo Creek Resources, which assists nonprofits and communities with water and energy policies and programs. Her favorite and first professional job was with the Cooperative Extension Service as a community development agent focusing on natural resources issues.

Until her election to City Council, Cindy served on the board of the local Takoma Foundation. Cindy co-chaired the City’s Committee on the Environment for four years and served as vice-chair on the City’s Recreation Committee.  She has been an active volunteer with several organizations, including Casa de Maryland and Dining for Women’s grants committee.

Cindy earned a master’s degree from Cornell University in natural resources management and a bachelor’s in environmental studies from Vassar College. The daughter of an immigrant baker and the first in her family to complete college, she was raised on then-rural eastern Long Island. Cindy is passionate about hiking, dancing, the ocean, and making a difference.
