Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Art Wrap Project

The City of Takoma Park is pleased to announce a Call for Proposals for designs to be used as vinyl wraps for two electric vehicle charging stations as part of the City’s ongoing efforts to promote public art. This call is for unique and original designs to be submitted by individual designers or designer groups who are at least 18 years old. Applicants do not need to be residents of Takoma Park.
Locations and Design Themes
Both charging stations are owned by the City of Takoma Park and are located on public property or in the public right-of-way.
Charging Station #1 – Old Town Takoma
Address: 7000 Carroll Avenue, Takoma Park MD
This charging station is located just west of 7000 Carroll Avenue on a sidewalk adjacent to the parking lot (location map and images below).
Design Theme: The theme of the design should focus specifically on a historical, architectural or cultural aspect of Takoma Park.
Charging Station #2 – Takoma Park Community Center
Address: 7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park MD
This charging station is located in the back parking lot of the Takoma Park Community Center (location map and images below).
Design Theme: The theme should focus on an aspect of environmental awareness relating to electric vehicles, how they reduce carbon emissions, help the environment, etc.
Project Budget
The all-inclusive budget for this project is $1,000 for the design of each charging station, with a maximum payment of $2,000 for accepted designs for both charging stations. Applicants may submit proposals for one or both charging stations utilizing the required design theme for each charging station. All expenses related to the submitted design(s) are the responsibility of the selected artists, with the exception of the cost of printing and installing the wraps. Artists also must be available for consultation without any additional compensation for any issues that arise during the printing and installation of the wraps.
No liability, workers’ compensation, or other insurance coverage is provided by the City to or for any of the artists, their employees, volunteers or agents. All parties agree to participate in the project at their own risk.
Copyright and Reproduction Rights
The copyright for the work (and any preliminary designs, models or drawings) shall remain with artist. The City shall be entitled without any additional payment to use photographs or other means to publicize the work through any publications, social media, film, video or television broadcast, and/or other media channels.
Application Process and Deadline
Artists should submit a specific concept design in their proposal for one or both charging stations in a file format that is easily viewable online, such as jpg, PDF, etc. A brief description of the design and its relevance to the required design theme for each station also is required. Artists also must submit three examples of previous work that is similar to this project.

Open Competition Selection Process
Submissions will be reviewed internally for compliance with the general conditions of this Call for Proposals with finalists forwarded to the selection committee for consideration. The selection of any proposal is wholly within the discretion of the City of Takoma Park which reserves the right to accept or reject any or all of the proposals for any reason. All awarded public art commissions will be contracted through the City of Takoma Park.
Artists may be selected to complete one or both projects.
