About the Takoma Park Middle School Addition
Montgomery County Public Schools is constructing an addition to the Takoma Park Middle School site at 7611 Piney Branch Road. From the MCPS website: “The objective of this project is to construct an addition and renovate portions of Takoma Park Middle School to address the space and core deficiencies and provide additional program and support spaces. The 16 stations will increase the capacity to 1,306 seats and is scheduled to be complete August 2020. January 9, 2018: Board of Education unanimously passed a resolution to approve the preliminary plans report for the Takoma Park Middle School addition project developed by Smolen-Emr-Ilkovitch Architects, Inc.Resolution
Fall 2017: The Takoma Park Middle School Design Community Meetings were held by the Division of Construction on October 5 and October 19, 2017 at the Takoma Park Middle School.
Takoma Park Middle School:
“Projections indicate enrollment at Takoma Park Middle School will exceed capacity by 150 seats or more by the end of the six-year period. An FY 17 appropriation for planning funds is approved to begin the architectural design for an addition project. The approved completion date is August 2020. Relocatable classrooms will be utilized until additional capacity can be added. In order for this project to be completed on this schedule, county and state funding must be provided at the levels approved in this CIP” (Chapter 4, page 37).
