Takoma Park Minor Master Plan

  Montgomery Planning (M-NCPPC), in partnership with the City of Takoma Park, is undertaking the Takoma Park Minor Master Plan to update of portions of the 2000 Takoma Park Master Plan.  The Takoma Park Minor Master Plan Amendment  re-envisions the Washington Adventist Hospital and University campuses, the Erie Center, and the area along Maple Avenue.

April 2, 2024
County Council passed the Takoma Park Minor Master Plan Amendment
The draft Resolution which was unchanged, can be viewed in the Council agenda materials.

On September 30, 2021, the Montgomery County Planning Board approved the project boundary and scope of work for the Takoma Park Minor Master Plan.

December 14, 2023:  The Montgomery Planning Board held Worksession #6 on the Minor Master Plan. Agenda, Video
The Board voted 1) to approve the Public Hearing Draft as the Planning Board draft and to transmit it to the County Council and County Executive and 2) to approve listing properties to the Locational Atlas and Index of Historic Properties: Heffner Park Community Center (42 Oswego Avenue); Krestview (7625 Carroll Avenue); and The Sligo Seventh-Day Adventist Church (7700 Carroll Avenue).

December 13, 2023: The Takoma Park City Council passed Resolution 2023-38, supporting the adoption and transmittal of the Planning Board Draft to the Montgomery County Council of the Minor Master Plan Amendment, with conditions,  in a 6-1 vote. Agenda, Video

September 14, 2023: The Montgomery County Planning Board held a Public Hearing on Thursday, September 14, 2023 for community input on the Takoma Park Minor Master Plan Amendment.

September 13, 2023:  The  Council passed Resolution 2023-33, Comments on the Public Hearing Draft of the Minor Master Plan Amendment.

August 16, 2023:  Minor Master Plan Information Session.

July 18, 2023: Minor Master Plan Information Session
Community meeting hosted by Council members Seamens  and Honzak for Wards 4 and 5 at the Washington Adventist University campus.

June 7, 2023:  the City Council passed a resolution to the Planning Board regarding the process of the plan moving forward to the Public Hearing:  Resolution 2023-16.

May 24, 2023: The planning team presented the working draft with recommendations presentation (PDF) recommendations for the City Council meeting.

May 10: Historic Preservation Commission: Public Hearing and Worksession: Listing to the Locational Atlas and Index of Historic Sites and to the Master Plan for Historic Preservation – Amendment.

April 10, 18, 20, 2023: The planning team presented an identical presentation (PDF) of their preliminary recommendations for the plan area at three different public meetings.

October 18, 2022: Montgomery Planning staff hosted a community Open House at Piney Branch Elementary School to gather community feedback. Over 100 residents attended the event. The materials shared at the event are available in the County’s Visioning Dashboard (link).

March 2022: The planning team presented the Existing Conditions of the plan area to the Takoma Park City Council (March 9), the community (March 29) and the Montgomery County Planning Board (March 31). Download the Existing Conditions presentation: English | አማርኛ | Español | Français.

September 30, 2021: The Montgomery County Planning Board approved the Minor Master Plan project boundary and scope of work. This formally kicks off the two-year Minor Master Plan process. Staff Report | Presentation
