Technology Investment Strategy
About the IT Governance Model and Technology Investment Strategy
In 2014, the City ordered an IT assessment that provided insight into the state of IT operations. The assessment revealed the need to develop an IT Governance model to formalize the process used to evaluate the impacts of the application of existing technology, identify future technology-related needs, and make recommendations for how to address those needs. This project includes the following tasks: finalize IT governance model, formalize committee, develop charter, and establish procedures for decision-making related to IT projects, services, and purchases.
Current Project Status
A new “Technology Steering Committee” was established in September 2015. The Committee drafted and finalized documents outlining the IT Governance model, Committee charter, etc. in October 2015. A kick-off meeting was held in November to provide instruction to staff regarding the process for proposing technology purchases. The Technology Steering Committee solicited and reviewed the proposals in late December and issued a recommendation to the City Manager in late January 2016. The report will inform budget decisions during the development of the Manager’s Recommended Budget.
