Proclamation of November as Municipal Government Works Month

WHEREAS, the City of Takoma Park is one of 157 incorporated cities and towns in Maryland; and

WHEREAS, municipal government represents the level of government closest to the people, allowing residents to have direct access to their elected officials; and

WHEREAS, municipalities enhance the quality of life for their residents by providing various services tailored to the particular needs and desires of the community; and

WHEREAS, the City of Takoma Park maintains municipal facilities, streets, sidewalks, parks, natural areas, collects refuse and recycling, clears snow and leaves, manages stormwater facilities, protects tenants through rent stabilization and other laws, provides recreation classes and programs, maintains a full-service municipal library and a full-service police department; and

WHEREAS, in an effort to educate residents about municipal government and the importance of active and informed participation by residents, the City of Takoma Park is proud to promote municipal government awareness; and

WHEREAS, municipalities help to make Maryland a great place to live, work, play and explore.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, TALISHA SEARCY, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF TAKOMA PARK, , do hereby join the Maryland Municipal League in proclaiming November to be Municipal Government Works Month in the City of Takoma Park.
