Montgomery College Math and Science Building

Montgomery College is planning the new Catherine and Isiah Leggett Math and Science Building on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. Montgomery College selected the firm, SmithGroup, to design the replacement math and science building on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. On February 14, 2019, Montgomery Planning Board voted to approve the Montgomery College Mandatory Referral application (MR2019011)  and Forest Conservation Exemption  (42019092E) with recommendations. The documents are posted on the County website:   https://www.mcatlas.org/Development_Info/Default.aspx (enter the project number to see the details).

On March 22, 2019, Montgomery College President, DeRionne Pollard, wrote a letter responding to the Mandatory Referral to Planning Board Chair, Casey Anderson.

Takoma Park City Council passed Resolution 2018-63 regarding the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Math and Science Building on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus on December 5th, 2018.

Site Selection – September 2017

Following a two-year process, Montgomery College President DeRionne Pollard announced her decision regarding the location of the College’s new Math-Science Building on September 29, 2017.  Dr. Pollard, in a letter to the community, explained the rationale for moving forward with Option 1, to replace Falcon Hall and Science South with a new math/science facility. Dr. Pollard sent a follow up letter on October 19, 2017.

Community Conversations – Spring/Summer 2017

In March 2017, Mayor Stewart and Montgomery College President Dr. Pollard extended an invitation to members of the community to participate in a series of three conversations about the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. Co-hosted by the Takoma Park City Council and Montgomery College, the last of these conversations was held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017. Information gathered during each of the three community conversations is available under “Links and Notes” in the right column of this page.
