Community Active Assailant Awareness Training
The City of Takoma Park Police Department will be hosting community training on how you can prepare yourself to survive an active assailant attack. We will use the C.R.A.S.E. model, Citizen Response to Active Shooter Events, developed by Texas State University.

Attendees will learn:
- Some of the history of active assailants
- Learn about the three stages of disaster response
- Options you can use to survive
- Characteristics of an assailant
- What you need to know when the police arrive.
- What you can do to help during an event.
Did you know?
In 2018, there were 323 recorded attacks in the United States, where four or more people were injured in a single event or related events, killing 387 people and wounding 1,274. Some were domestic situations, others were at malls, places of work or worship, outdoor events, private parties, or just out in the community at clubs, sponsored events, or taking a walk. This year, there are already over 330 incidents.

It is important that people in the community pay attention to their surroundings at all times and have a plan to react to any given situation.
