Seasonal Weather Threats

Severe weather can happen anytime, any season. Severe weather can include hazardous conditions produced by thunderstorms, including damaging winds, tornadoes, large hail, flooding and flash flooding, and winter storms associated with freezing rain, sleet, snow and strong winds. Be prepared for any weather event, by paying attention to weather alerts in our area through the media and/or signing up for weather alerts through Takoma Park Alert. Have essential supplies at home to help through weather events where you need to shelter at home or work. Have a plan to communicate with family and a place to meet when you become separated. Use our agencies and resources page to get more information.

Spring

Spring is the time that brings the plants in our area back to life. It is also a time of potential heavy rains, flash floods, and sometimes strong winds, knocking down power lines. Stay alert to changing conditions.

Spring can bring heavy rains and cause flooding, but really it can happen any time of the year. Always be aware of your surrounds when you are out or at home. If heavy rains are occurring where you are at think about the possibility of flooding. Low lying areas are susceptible to flooding and it does not take a lot of swift moving water to knock you over or move a vehicle.
