Engrave Your Valuables

The Police Department has engraving tools that the residents may check out.  Visit the Administrative Services desk, 7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland 20912, between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday, to check it out.  It is checked out for no longer than two weeks.  There is NO COST associated with the use of the engraver.

It’s important to keep a list of serial numbers and/or receipts of all electronic equipment, i.e., televisions, laptops, cell phones, iPads, tablets, computers, as well as a list of items that are easily sold or pawned, i.e., bikes, jewelry, collectibles.  Photographs or video tapes are always useful to have to keep a record of what you own (and insurance companies would also find this useful and convenient.)  Update your list periodically and do not leave it in the residence, if possible.  Use the engraving pen to write your current driver’s license number, or other identifying number unique to you, on your property.  To prevent identity theft, DO NOT use your social security number. If the item is stolen, and later recovered by police, the engraved number will allow investigators to get that property back to you.  Remember to keep a clear and detailed record of your property that is engraved.  Burglars don’t want marked merchandise!
