Vacant House Check Program

Vacant House Check Program

The Takoma Park Police Department offers a house check program to City residents who are away on vacation. If you are planning on going on a vacation, and no one will be staying at your house, you may be eligible to request a vacant house check on your home.

House Check Criteria: Only single-family dwellings, duplexes and townhouses will be checked. House checks will be conducted when:

  1. The occupants will be absent for at least four (4), but not more than thirty (30), days, and
  2. The house will not be occupied, by house sitters or the like, during the period.

The house check program involves a Takoma Park Police Officer visiting your home once a day during your absence and inspecting the premises for any signs of suspicious activity. To take advantage of this program, call the Police Dispatcher at 301-270-1100, and request a vacant house check registration, or click on the below application to submit an online registration. Information will be needed to include the duration of your absence, vehicles parked in the driveway, emergency notification information, etc.
