About the American Rescue Plan Act

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) was signed into law on March 11, 2021. The City of Takoma Park has been allocated $17.5 million in State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) through the ARPA legislation. These funds are to be used to support the local response to and recovery from the COVID-19 public health emergency. SLFRF are intended to respond to acute pandemic response needs, fill revenue shortfalls among local governments, support populations hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, and lay the groundwork for an equitable economic recovery.

Through ARPA/SLFRF, the City of Takoma Park has been provided resources to:

• Fight the pandemic and support families and businesses struggling with public health and economic impacts;
• Maintain vital public services, even amid declines in revenue;
• Build a strong, resilient, and equitable recovery by making investments that support long-term growth and opportunity.

Funds must be obligated or encumbered by the City by December 31, 2024. All funds must be fully spent by December 31, 2026.
