SafeTrack Surge #6: Takoma to Silver Spring

On Monday, August 1 – Sunday, August 7 Red Line trains will continuously single track between Takoma and Silver Spring as part of WMATA’s SafeTrack program.

During the SafeTrack surges parking rates and times at the Takoma Junction City parking lot will not be enforced. This will allow its use as a carpool lot.

Water Main Repairs on Maple Avenue

Water main repairs on Maple Ave. will close Maple from Sligo Creek Parkway to Erie Ave. A new temporary detour is in place.

The new route will travel Maple, to Sligo Creek, to Kennebec Ave. to Flower Ave. This path is for both north and southbound Carroll Ave. traffic. There will be no through traffic on Maplewood Ave. or the 8000 Block of Maple until base repair of the road way is complete. Work is anticipated to complete by 6:00 PM.

Carroll Avenue Bridge Closure

On Monday, July 25 at 9:00 AM crews will close and detour traffic on MD 195 in preparation for the Carroll Avenue Bridge replacement project. See “More Information” for details and detour info.

Drivers will be directed to use Old Carroll Avenue, Sligo Creek Parkway, Maple Avenue, Maplewood Avenue and Flower Avenue as detour routes. For more information see the Carroll Avenue Bridge Construction page in the Project Directory.

Fourth of July Parade & Fireworks Road Closures

Street Closures

The following streets will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2016, from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM:

  • Ethan Allen Avenue at Jackson Avenue
  • Carroll Avenue at Lincoln Avenue all the way to Maple Avenue
  •  Maple Avenue to Lincoln Avenue (for the parade route)

Parade Route

The parade will begin at MD 410 (East West Highway) and Carroll Avenue.  It will continue south on Carroll Avenue to Maple Avenue, where it will turn right.  The parade will continue on Maple Avenue until it reaches Lincoln Avenue.

Metrobus & Ride-On Detours

  • Traffic heading west on MD 410 (East West Highway) will be diverted on to Jackson Avenue to Sligo Creek Parkway and will make a left turn on to Sligo Creek Parkway.
  • Follow Sligo Creek Parkway to Maple Avenue, and then turn right and then an immediate left back on to Sligo Creek Parkway.
  • Follow Sligo Creek Parkway to Piney Branch Road and turn left.
  • Follow Piney Branch Road to Philadelphia Avenue and turn right on to Philadelphia Avenue, or continue south on Piney Branch Road towards the District of Columbia

No Parking Info

Fourth of July Parade

On Monday, July 4, 2016 from 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM there will be no parking at the following locations:

  • Both sides of Jackson Avenue, from Ethan Allen Avenue to Sligo Creek Parkway
  • Both sides of Ritchie Avenue, from Maple Avenue to Piney Branch Road
  • Both sides of Maple Avenue, from the Washington D.C. line north to Lincoln Avenue
  •  All parking spaces behind the Takoma Park Community Center and Takoma Park Maryland Library
  • All parking spaces to the rear of theTakoma Park Community Center near the Takoma Park Police Department
  • Grant Avenue, between Hancock Avenue and Carroll Avenue (both sides, unless one side already restricts parking)
  • Lee Avenue, between Hancock Avenue and Carroll Avenue (both sides, unless one side already restricts parking)
  • Sherman Avenue, between Hancock Avenue and Carroll Avenue (both sides, unless one side already restricts parking)
  • Hancock Avenue, between Grant Avenue and Sherman Avenue (both sides, unless one side already restricts parking)

There will be NO PARKING at meters along the parade route and staging area on Carroll Avenue, Grant Avenue, Laurel Avenue and Maple Avenue.

Fireworks

On Monday, July 4, 2016 from 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM there will be no parking at the following locations:

 

  • Right side of Darwin Avenue up to Holly Avenue
  • Right side of Grant Avenue from Holly Avenue to Piney Branch Road
  • Left side of Grant Avenue from Chestnut Avenue to Piney Branch Road
  • Right side of Ritchie Avenue from Piney Branch Road to Oswego Avenue

From 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM there will be no parking to corner from:

  • Chestnut Avenue at Holly Avenue (both sides of the street)
  • Holly Avenue at Grant Avenue (both sides of the street)

JazzFest Street Closures

Streets in the downtown Takoma Park area will be closed to traffic and parking for JazzFest. Street closures start at 7:00 AM on Sunday, June 12, 2016. Streets will reopen at 7:00 PM. Parking restrictions start at 6:00 AM.

Closures

  • Carroll Ave.: From Tulip Ave. to Eastern Ave. Secondary streets (Laurel, Willow, Westmoreland) will be barricaded.

*NOTE: Maple Ave. will remain open with parking restricted to the northbound side of the roadway only.

Parking Restrictions

Parking restrictions will be enforced  on the following streets:

  • Carroll Ave. Both sides of 6800-7000 block.
  • Laurel Ave. Both sides of 6800-7000 block.
  • Maple Ave.  Southbound side from the 7100 block to the 7400 block.
  • Tulip Ave. Both sides between Willow Ave. & Carroll Ave.

Celebrate Takoma Festival Update

Celebrate Takoma Update

Due to inclement weather, the Celebrate Takoma Festival will be held inside Piney Branch Elementary School today from 4-7pm.  While the no parking signs are still being enforced, Maple Ave and Grant Ave will now be open for normal traffic.

Metro and Ride On bus detours may still be in place so please check their websites for updated information.
