Command Staff - Lieutenant Cynthia Williams
Lt. Cynthia Williams began her law enforcement career in 1998 at the Edmonston Police Department. She was hired by the Takoma Park Police Department on May 20, 2001, just celebrating her 20th year. She began her career in patrol, before moving to the Community Police Team in 2004. In mid 2005, she became a detective in the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). During her three years in CID, she worked many cases, to include a record year of homicides in 2006. Lt. Williams had the opportunity to profile a case on television’s America’s Most Wanted program in 2006.
In 2008, Lieutenant Williams returned to patrol and was promoted to Corporal. She remained in patrol, until a unique opportunity arose, appointing her as the Communications Supervisor in the dispatch/911 center.
Lt. Williams returned to patrol in 2013 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2018. She continued to manage a patrol squad, until her promotion to Lieutenant, Executive Officer in the Office of the Chief. Currently, Lt. Williams serves as the Commander in our Administrative Division.
During her career, Lt. Williams became the agency’s first trained hostage negotiator in 2018 and spent a majority of the last nine years helping to recruit and hire candidates within the police department. Lt. Williams has prepared for her position by attending numerous leadership and supervision in law enforcement courses. She has received numerous awards and commendations, to include a life saving award.
