Spooky Season Scoop: Monster Bash is Saturday, October 26!

The City of Takoma Park Recreation Department will be hosting our annual Monster Bash event on Saturday, October 26.
Event Details
  • Monster Bash – Trunk or Treat from 12:30-2:30pm:
    You’re invited to participate in a SPOOKTACULAR event at the Takoma Park Middle School parking lot. We are looking for volunteers and vendors to participate in our Trunk or Treat. You can choose to bring your own vehicle and decorate the trunk or we can provide a table for you. For more information contact Chelsea Nunez at 301-891-7281 or ChelseaN@takomaparkmd.gov.
  • Bash Kick-off starts at 1pm:
    Our events will commence with a Bash Kick-off at the Takoma Park Middle School parking lot.
  • The Costume Contest and Parade will follow the Kick-off beginning at approximately 2pm on Piney Branch Road:
    The judging will occur during the parade itself. We will then walk down Piney Branch Road to Philadelphia Avenue (left turn) then to Maple Avenue for the Awards Ceremony and a fabulous concert by “The Grandsons Jr”.
  • Award Ceremony and Celebration along Maple Avenue:
    Prizes awarded for Most Original, Cutest, and Scariest costumes in the following age groups:

    • 4 & Under,
    •  5-8,
    •  9-12,
    •  Teens/Adults,
    • Overall Group Award.
    • Plus a new Literary Costume Award sponsored by our Takoma Park Library!

Road Closures
In order to hold the event and ensure patron safety, we will have the following road blockages:
  • Piney Branch Road, from Takoma Park Middle School to Philadelphia Avenue from about 1:30pm – 2:30pm there will be a rolling street closure. The roadway will be reopened once all parade participants have cleared the roadway.
  • The intersections of Chestnut Avenue/Grant Avenue, Philadelphia Avenue/Piney Branch Road, Philadelphia Avenue/Chestnut Avenue, Philadelphia Avenue/Holly Avenue, Philadelphia Avenue/Birch Avenue, Philadelphia Avenue/Cedar Avenue, Philadelphia Avenue/Old Philadelphia Avenue and will have rolling closures between 1:45pm – 3pm.
  • Some residents will not be able to exit their neighborhood while streets are closed for the parade (Hodges Lane, Chestnut Avenue, Holly Avenue, Darwin Avenue and Grant Avenue).
  • Once the parade concludes all street closures on Philadelphia will be lifted.
  • Philadelphia Avenue/Maple Avenue, Maple Avenue/Grant Avenue, will be closed 1:30-6pm, through the event. Maple Avenue/ Lee Avenue will still be open.
  • Residents along Maple Avenue (Philadelphia-Lee) will not be able to exit along Maple through the event.
  • Ahead of the event, detour signs will be placed on Maple Avenue and Piney Branch Road with expected closures and times.
  • There will also be no parking signs in the Community Center back parking lot and along Maple Avenue between Philadelphia Avenue and Lee Avenue.
  • Ride-On and Metro bus service (including Metro Access) will be interrupted on the aforementioned streets from 11am – 7pm.
  • In the event of inclement weather, the Monster Bash will be moved to Takoma Park Middle School and the road closures will be lifted. To receive an update on weather conditions, please call our inclement weather line at 301-891-7101 ext. 5605.

Register for the Recreation Department’s School Year Childcare Program

 

Registration for the 2024-2025 School Year Child Care programs (Morning Addition, Afternoon Addition and Before and After the Bell) is open.

If your child loves our Rec Dept classes and loves attending one of our various summer camps, we encourage you to register for our childcare programs during the school year. Morning and Afternoon Addition are held at the Takoma Park Community Center, 7500 Maple Avenue, and Before and After the Bell is held at the Takoma Park Recreation Center, 7315 New Hampshire Avenue.

 

Our emphasis is on providing fun, leisure and recreational programs. Spaces fill fast don’t wait!

Register online or in-person and available for those in 1st – 5th grade.

 

Enrollment in the current year does not guarantee space next year.

 

20% is due at the time of registration.
