Transit Service Changes over Labor Day Weekend
September 2, 2010
Transit service changes over Labor Day Weekend: THE TAKOMA AND SILVER SPRING METRO STATIONS WILL BE CLOSED THROUGHOUT THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND for Red Line maintenance work.  The Forest Glen, Wheaton, and Glenmont stations will also be closed during that time.

Also, Ride On will make many bus schedule changes, effective Sunday, September 5.  Schedule changes in the Takoma Park area are very minor, but will be made to Routes 15, 17 and 24. Takoma Park Newsletter - September 2010 issue now available!

The September 2010 edition of the Takoma Park Newsletter was mailed to all households in the City and is also available here for online viewing. Any household which doesn't receive a Newsletter is invited to by post a service request to My TKPK.
 
Carry-Out Alcoholic Beverages Hearing
August 18, 2010
There will be a public hearing on Monday September 13, 2010. The hearing will discuss allowing carry-out alcoholic beverage sales in Takoma Park. Click here for more information.
 
Community Emergency Response Training
August 19, 2010
The Takoma Park Emergency Preparedness Committee is recruiting volunteers to attend Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training beginning in September. CERT members learn basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT members can give critical assistance to others in their neighborhoods or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. Classes meet on a series of Wednesdays and Saturdays in September and October. You must attend all sessions to graduate. Click here for a schedule and additional information.
 
Small Community Grant Program

FY 2011 Small Community Grant Program - Application Deadline October 4, 2010.

The City is accepting applications for funding through the Small Community Grant Program. The program competitively awards grants of up to $2,500 for community projects. The application deadline is October, 2010. Click here for more information.
 
Public Works Renovation and Services
August 12, 2010
In preparation for the Public Works Facility renovation, the Administrative staff, the arborist and the engineer, will be relocating to the Community Center at 7500 Maple Avenue beginning August 16. The Public Works office, at 31 Oswego Avenue, will be closed to the public until the office renovation is complete.Public Works staff phone numbers and email addresses will not change.For details of service location changes,, click HERE
 
Takoma Junction Task Force

PUBLIC HEARING - Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

The City of Takoma Park will be holding a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, September 27, 2010 to solicit community input regarding priority needs and proposed projects for its PY37 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. CDBG Grant Applications Due Sept 13

The City of Takoma Park is accepting applications for its PY37 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Approximately $25,000 in public service funds and $100,000 in capital project funds are available beginning July 1, 2011. Deadline for applications is 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2011. “Play of Color”
August 12, 2010
 An exploration of high-impact color by Juliet Arnaudo, Jennifer Brewer, Julie Hart, Soline Krug, and Charla Wilkerson that explores the use of color and gives the public a first in-depth glimpse of the artists, right at the cutting edge of their maturing exploration. “Play of Color” will be on display in Gallery 3 and the Atrium Gallery through September 11.

Closing Reception - complete with a live painting demonstration by Jennifer Brewer, Soline Krug and Charla Wilkerson - will be held on Friday, August 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Atrium Gallery, located on the main level of the Takoma Park Community Center, is open Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Fridays until 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 
Call for Proposals for Programming for "We are Takoma" Series

Are you interested in playing before an audience?  Looking for a venue to hold the premiere performance of the new play you just finished?  Want to share your storytelling talents with the community?  Have you just wrapped up the filming of your latest documentary or new short?  If so, consider submitting a proposal to the Arts and Humanities Commission for "We are Takoma", a series of free programming to begin this fall at the Takoma Park Community Center.  We want to be sure to include you in the mix.  Throw caution to the wind and give it a shot, we’d love the opportunity to work with you to bring your talents to the community.  Click HERE for more information, or contact Sara Anne Daines at 301-891-7224, or by email.
 
2010 Election Information

Primary Election Day is September 14, 2010 - 7 a.m. to 8 p.m, and General Election Day is November 2, 2010 - 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. This is not a City election. Information about the election is available HERE
 
Annual Rent Stabilization Reports
August 2, 2010
The City's Ordinance requires an annual reporting of the rents and fees charged to tenants at all rent stabilized rental units. As of August 1, 2010, these reports must be submitted online. To access the online reporting system, click HERE. Deadline for submission is Thursday, September 30, 2010. Failure to submit a completed report by the deadline is a violation of the law and will result in the issuance of a citation and a fine of $500. Maple Avenue Community Garden Application Deadline Extended
July 1, 2010
Are you interested in growing vegetables, herbs or flowers but don’t have the space? The deadline has been extended for the 20 community garden spots at 7620 Maple Avenue. If you live on Maple Avenue, between Philadelphia and Sligo Creek Parkway, then you're eligible to apply. Click HERE for more information and the application form. The remaining planters will be assigned on a first-come first-serve basis.

Teens Making A Difference
June 11, 2010
Summer volunteer opportunities are available for teens who would like to make a difference in their community.  During the summer months, teens will engage in community projects for seniors, from grooming the yard and painting to assisting with errands. West Nile Report
May 10, 2010
Birds and mosquitoes in Takoma Park have been part of a study of the prevalence and transmission of West Nile Virus since 2003. The attached report, presenting from 2008, explains the intent of the study, and some of the issues and results of the study. Avid birders, and more avid mosquito evaders in town may be interested.
